My Story and My Changes

So I have a confession. I am a victim of freshers 15, the only problem is that I'm now going into my third and final year of University (yes people in England we can get full degrees in three years! Less debt!) and have continued to be a victim. So I have decided to evaluate how I live my life, and what I have found is shocking. Well... no not shocking, just kind of a bad way of living.

So here are my findings;
  • I don't drink water at all. Seriously I thought about it and the only liquid I drink is diet coke. My excuse has been for two years is that I'm tired and need the caffeine but when you're drinking 2 litres a day of diet coke I feel like that it's not doing any good.
  • I don't eat vegetables or fruit. I mean come on when does anyone have enough time or money to eat those while they're in university? My food seems to be based largely on starch, it's cheap and fills me up which is what I need after an eleven hour day on campus.
  • However, I do have a lot of takeaways. It is worrying when you mention to the woman behind the counter at your local fish and chip shop that you are moving for your third year and she looks visibly saddened and that when you're at a friends house the delivery man from your favourite indian take away recognises you and knows your address. So, I guess the mystery is solved about where my student loan is going.
  • I can also sometimes not be bothered to cook myself dinner and so will just snack on crisps and biscuits which is great once or twice in a year but not once or twice a week.
  • I never exercise, I just don't have the time during the week and due to the lack of nutrition in my diet I end up slobbing about at the weekend as I have no energy left.
So my changes;
  • I will drink water. I know it sounds stupid but I actually need to say/type this to make sure I do it. That being said I feel like I am so addicted to caffeine that I can't go cold turkey without shaking or becoming violent so I'm going to try to stick to just a can a day. I will also carry around a bottle of water with me all day and hopefully drink it.
  • I feel that smoothies are a good way to try and get some of my 5 a day (well apparently its 7 a day now but lets not get ahead of ourselves). I've found some really good recipes that I can have for breakfast as I'm walking to University.
  • While I understand that takeaways are really bad for you, there is nothing better than sitting with your girls watching absolutely awful rom coms eating pizza or Chinese or whatever. But seeing as I live with my girls, I'm going to limit myself to one takeaway a month.
  • I will be bothered to cook. I know it's easier said than done but I will be living closer to University cutting my 45 minute walk to 15 minutes which means that I will be getting in earlier and less tired.
  • I have found this really cool thing called a sprint triathlon. This is like a baby triathlon where the swimming is half a mile, the cycling is 12.4 miles and the running is 3.1 miles which makes the entire distance 16 miles. I will begin to do the stages per day so swimming on monday, cycling on tuesday etc. just so I don't kill myself.
So there it is, my changes. Now let's see if I stick to them.
